“I don’t mind living in a man’s world, as long as I can be a woman in it.”
– Marylin Monroe
I am 24 years old and I am an educated road car mechanic – 4 really long years of my life! After that I decided to do another 2 years of education and after 730 days of hardcore studying I could call myself an ‘Automotive Technologist’. I guess a lot of you wont know what that is, so let me put it in another way; If I worked in a Zoo, I would be the person that explains how to feed a lion but not the actual person doing the feeding. Same same just within the car industry.
All this hard work was the beginning of a journey towards the career of my dreams.
Next I had to summon the courage to leave behind my amazing family, wonderful friends and my beautiful home in Denmark and move to rainy England to pursue that dream of becoming a Formula 1 mechanic. I worked for multiple companies and on different cars in different series, got an opportunity to go to F1 which I did, then the company closed down after 8 month and now I’m back working on the same cars that I worked on when I first arrived in the UK. 1 1/2 year ago. More experienced, more grounded and even more determined to get back to where I now feel like I was born to be!
The industry I work in is very special and if you don’t work in it yourself, its not easy to understand. It takes a lot of my time and attention and that can really tear on friendships and other relationships. Luckily I live with my wonderful boyfriend who is also a race mechanic! convenient, I know 😉 so at least he understands! But all in all I am a confused young women trying to find my way in this industry, reach my goal, balancing work, relationship and friendships while trying to figure out how to be a woman in a mans world.
I cant wait to share my everyday observations and struggles with you!
Hope you like it x
